Fast-Aperture Prime
The Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art for Sony E offers a fast f/1.4 aperture, which is well-suited for working in low-light conditions and also provides ample background separation for portraiture & greater control over the focus position when using shallow depth of field techniques. 

Optics
A floating element maximizes close-focus performance and the front of the barrel remains stationary regardless of focus distance. Two aspherical elements, One FLD element and four SLD elements featured in the optical design help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy. A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions. Nine-blade rounded diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality. 

Hyper Sonic Motor Autofocus System
The integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) realizes quick and quiet autofocusing, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time. 

Build
The Sigma 35mm’s build quality offers a substantial improvement over previous Sigma lenses. The lens is constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material, along with traditional metals, for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations. The bayonet mount is constructed from brass for ensured accuracy and durability. Additionally, rubber sealing is incorporated in the mount design to render it dust- and splash-resistant.

• This lens is compatible with Sony E mount mirrorless cameras in both full frame (FE) and crop frame/APS-C. Its effective focal length on a crop sensor is equivalent to 52.5mm.

• Compatibility with in-camera image stabilization (note that the lenses themselves are not image-stabilized).

• This lens is ideal for group portraits, street photography, low-light photography, fine art work, commercial shooting, and events.

• As of 08/2017, Sigma issued the following warning, which includes the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens for Canon:
  "We have found that some Sigma interchangeable lenses for Canon are not fully compatible with the 6D Mark II, 77D, Rebel T7i, Rebel SL2. When attached to these cameras and the 'Lens aberration correction' function is on and these cameras are set to 'Enable' for Live View shooting, then an error will occur. Please set the 'Lens aberration correction' function of these cameras to 'Disable' when using Sigma's interchangeable lenses for Canon."
